The Three Musketeers is a French historical novel written in 1844 by French author Alexandre Dumas. It is the story of d'Artagnan, a chivalrous swordsman who joins the ranks of the Musketeers of the Guard. He is befriended by three of the most formidable musketeers, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, the "Three Musketeers."

 

This deck is inspired by their story and illustrated in the engraving style of the time period. Printed by the United States playing card company, the Standard edition features a dark blue tuck case.

King Louis XIII is the weak Monarch over France. He is easily manipulated by his advisors, especially Cardinal Richelieu and Milady de Winter who wish to discredit Queen Anne in the eyes of the King in order to gain more power.

Anne of Austria

Anne of Austria is the Queen of France who leads an unhappy life in her court. She is not trusted by the king and despised by his advisors, especially Cardinal Richelieu who plots to discredit her at King Louis XIII’s ball. She is secretly involved in an affair with the Duke of Buckinham who is madly in love with her.

PORTHOS

Porthos is one of the three musketeers who is marked by his vanity. He is prideful and loves to dress in nice clothing. Despite this, he is a valiant fighter and a courageous friend.
